Dental Implants

People who for any reason have lost their teeth and wear partial or total dentures, already have the alternative of Dental Implants. An option with which you can replace your teeth and recover the feeling of having your own.

Dental Implants

These are cylindrical pieces of titanium that are placed in the maxillary or mandibular bone in order to replace the root of the lost tooth. This is then accompanied by a porcelain crown. In this way we recover the functionality and aesthetics of the mouth.

During the process of implants, there is a stage called Osseointegration and it is related to the time (between 4 and 5 months) that it takes the titanium to fuse correctly with the bone. Then, we proceed to rehabilitate the implant with the elaboration of the porcelain crown that provides us with the highest level of aesthetics, comfort and function.

We have a wealth of experience in the placement of implants, having fitted an average of 2000 of them. Our specialists are highly trained in the practice and development of advanced surgical techniques and are among the best specialists in the city of Medellin.

There is one fundamental factor before performing dental implants and that is to determine whether or not the patient has enough bone to perform the procedure. Bone regeneration consists of recovering the bone lost due to factors such as the loss of a tooth, the use of removable prostheses or trauma. In these cases it is carried out by performing a bone graft extracted from the patient or from a synthetic bone, obtaining highly satisfactory results.

All this process is ambulatory, which means that it is carried out in the clinic with local anesthesia, avoiding discomfort or pain to the patient. It is a highly reliable procedure with 90% success, taking into account that at Oralimagen we have a team of specialists and the latest technology to provide security and confidence at the time of treatment.

Dental implants are a very safe treatment with a success rate of 98%. They're made from titanium so they're biocompatible with natural bone. We offer finance options, whereby a percentage is paid at the time of surgery and the rest during the 6 months that the rehabilitation takes place. It is necessary for the specialist to review the patient because in some situations there is too little bone to fix the implant and it is necessary to regenerate it before going ahead with the procedure.

At Oralimagen we include for you in your dental implant process:

●      Digital CAD/CAM Planning (CAD: Computer Aided Design and CAM: Computer Aided Manufacturing) by means of specialised software
●      titanium dental implants
●      implant cover screws
●      healing structures
●      impression making attachments
●      final adjustments
●      all-ceramic supported implant crown*

*Only in the front section of the mouth where there is a demand for greater aesthetics

All these materials are of high quality and are of international commercial standards. That is to say that you can find them in most of the main cities at world-wide level.

IMPLANT OPTIONS:

● TRADITIONAL TECHNIQUES: individual implants that are implanted into the bone through the traditional surgical technique (performed under local anesthesia in the clinic). They are usually ideal for patients with favorable bone conditions. The implant is installed and after 3 to 6 months once the bone has been integrated, the final restorative prosthesis is fitted

● PTERYGOIDS:pterygoid implants are an alternative treatment in most cases where there is severe degeneration in the upper jaw and where it is not possible to place implants using conventional methods because of poor quality and quantity of bone, or because of anatomical limitations such as the maxillary sinus. It is a surgical technique that requires an adequate understanding of the surrounding anatomical structures and previous training in the technique (performed under local anesthesia in the clinic). They’re ideal for patients that need implants to replace their molar teeth

● ZYGOMATIC: special implants of a much longer length than the conventional ones designed for patients with severe degeneration of the upper jawbone. This technique which consists of placing the implants in the remaining bone of the patient is known as zygomatic, and must be done under general anesthesia. It is placed in the outermost part of the face, reforming the cheekbone. In most cases, 2 to 4 zygomatic implants are used to rehabilitate the entire upper jaw. After the intervention, the patient leaves with a temporary prosthesis that will be used for approximately 6 months. After this time, when the period of bone integration and healing has passed, the final prosthesis is fitted

●      MULTIPLE DENTAL IMPLANTS (“all on four” / “all on six”): this is a technique used to replace all teeth through a fixed prosthesis supported on implants, whereby 4 to 6 dental implants are installed on average and after 4 to 6 months of healing and bone integration, we proceed with the installation of the final hybrid prosthesis. During the process of bone integration, the patient will be left with a temporary prosthesis which can be screwed to the implants (this is called immediate loading, which is performed as long as the implants at the time of surgical installation are stable enough to support it), otherwise they will be left with a totally removable prosthesis

DENTAL IMPLANTS ACCORDING TO YOUR CLINICAL AND BONE CONDITIONS:

Thanks to technological and scientific advances, there are currently different alternatives directed by qualified and highly trained professionals for the placement of dental implants in bone or clinical conditions that are not always adequate. On many occasions patients are informed that they are not suitable for the placement of dental implants, but our group of professionals provide these patients - in most cases - with alternatives to replace missing teeth.
These special cases can be given when the following conditions are present:

● Post-extraction in back sections of the mouth:when an extraction of a molar tooth is performed, generally the alveolus (area that remains in the bone posterior to the extraction of a tooth) is too wide, which prevents a conventional implant of that diameter from being placed. For these types of cases our professions use implants called MAX, which have a much larger diameter than the conventional ones. The main advantage of these implants is that they shorten healing times, as they perform immediate implants to the extraction

● Very degenerated bone areas:there are bone conditions with severe degeneration that  in many cases prevent the placement of implants with traditional surgical techniques, but we place implants using advanced surgical techniques called pterygoid implants. They consist of placing conventional dental implants through the tuberosity of the jaw and anchoring them in the sphenoid bone with certain angulation

● Decrease in the height and thickness of the upper jawbone: generally when patients have lost all their teeth many years ago, their bone degenerates so much that it prevents the placement of conventional implants. For these types of cases there are dental implants called Zigomatic. They are implants of a much longer length, with a special anatomy that allows them to anchor not only to the little existing jawbone, but also to the zygoma bone located near the cheekbone

● Very small spaces: sometimes the spaces in which lost teeth have to be replaced are very small, and generally correspond to the lower front section, making it difficult to place dental implants of a conventional diameter. We handle a narrow type of implant from an internationally recognized brand in order to provide all the existing alternatives to our patients
We care about your experience, which is why we have sedation alternatives for relaxed and satisfying experiences:
● NITROUS OXIDE SEDATION:known as laughing gas, in which through inhalation of nitrous oxide in combination with oxygen, the patient achieves a state of relaxation

● INTRAVENOUS SEDATION:a type of sedation generated through intravenous medications, in which the patient is relaxed, calm and does not perceive pain or discomfort related to the procedure being performed. It is performed by a group of certified anesthesiologists accompanied by monitoring and nursing teams

*both have an additional cost

TIME AND TRAVEL PLANNING FOR YOUR DENTAL IMPLANT:

Generally 2 trips are required:
●      First trip: dental extractions (if necessary), placement of the dental implant(s) and installation of the temporary prosthesis (as far as possible this will be fixed, otherwise you must use a conventional removable prosthesis); if the implant is at the back of the mouth and not so visible it is suggested to leave it submerged inside the gum. A minimum time of 5 to 7 days is required in the city of Medellín. If the implants are zygomatic, at least 2 weeks are required in the city of Medellín

●      Second trip: after approximately 4 to 6 months of bone integration and healing, the crown(s) are installed, using the material chosen by the patient (metal ceramics or all-ceramics). A minimum time of 8 to 10 days is required in the city of Medellín

Do you identify with any of these conditions? Ask for an appointment with our specialists to advise you on the specifics of your case.
